Electron Gun for Linear Accelerator
Electron gun is the source of electrons for electron beam accelerators, which are used for industrial applications, medical applications, radiography and cargo-scanning applications. The 40 kV, 1.5 A thermionic electron gun can be used as injector for RF linac. It consists of a planar Lanthanum Hexaboride (LaB6) cathode indirectly heated by a tungsten filament which can be energized using a variac through an isolated filament transformer. It can work in vacuum of the order of 10-6 to 10-5 mbar and offers the capability of long life and less sensitivity to air exposure. The beam current is pulsed with a beam size of < 5 mm at exit.
The electron gun can also be used for various extraction voltage and corresponding beam current extractions and can also be easily operated in Triode mode with a grid bias.
Entrepreneurs having experience in the field of vacuum Science, technologies & practices, HV System Operation & precautions, Fabrications techniques & practices only can apply.

The major advantage of the LaB6 cathode based electron guns are its low thermionic work function, longer life, low contamination to exposure and it can work in higher vacuum levels. It is a major import substitute. Indigenously manufactured electron guns costing nearly one fifth of the imported machines could prove a cost effective solution to help the domestic industry improve product quality.

The electron gun can primarily be used as an injector for electron beam applications along with irradiation of suitable products.
