Special Category Lead Glass Slab Manufacturing Technology

Special Category Lead Glass Slab (varying thickness 50 mm to 100 mm, weight of slab maximum 20 kg , density of glass (~3.0 g/cc to ~5 g/cc) & having low melting point. Lead glasses have advantages of transparency and radiation shielding. This application is sought after at bio-hazardous material production facilities, X-ray facilities, Radioactive Laboratories, Nuclear Facilities and Irradiation Facilities.

Special category lead glasses manufacturing technology is aimed at providing information on all components requirement for a 50 mm to 100 mm thick glass slab production.

Precision requirement in melt-cooling processes and handing glass slabs for aiding transmissisivity improvisation and radiation resistance are accounted in the technology development.

ADVANTAGES
  1. High Density
  2. Light Transmissivity
  3. Radiation Resistance etc.

are exhibited in lead glasses

APPLICATIONS

As barrier material requiring visibility for

  1. X-ray facilities
  2. Radioactive Laboratories
  3. Nuclear Facilities
  4. Irradiation Facilities

Special Category Lead Glass Slab Manufacturing Technology is developed by BARC for Radiation Shielding application. Melt-cooling precision cycles, Glass handling equipment are critically designed for this development. High density, Glass Transmittivity, Radiation Resistance are typical features of special category lead glasses.

Twenty kilogram scale batches with thickness of 50 mm to 100 mm can be designed using this technology.

ADVANTAGES

Lead glass has low melting point, high density, superior shielding characteristics against gamma radiation etc.

APPLICATION

Lead glasses have advantages of transparency and radiation shielding. This application is sought after and bio-hazardous material production, X-ray facilities, radioactive hot cell areas etc.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

Production of lead glasses is achieved by multiple processing stages that include melting, melt-cooling, cutting, polishing and testing.

RAW MATERIALS

Raw materials are easily available in the local market.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The lead glass production facility apparatus comprises of multiple application furnaces, intricate glass holding equipment, cutting tools etc.
