Carbon nanotube (CNT) is a one-dimensional concentric
tubular structure with hexagonal arrangement of carbon atoms. It is in the form
of fine powder, multi walled with 20-50nm diameter, length is 5-10µm (approx)
& purity - 95%. It is well known for a combination of special material
properties like very high thermal & electrical conductivities, high tensile
strength, high modulus of elasticity, low density, high porosity, chemical
stabilities, and high aspect ratio.
Great potential in nano technology, nanomechanics, biotechnology,

WORKING
PRINCIPLE
High temperature pyrolysis of carbon feedstock
in presence of iron catalyst using Floating Catalyst Chemical Vapor Deposition
(FC-CVD) process
INFRASTRUCTURE REQUIRED
CVD Furnace (SS make
vertical tubular furnace with an arrangement for heating upto 1000oC
and a control panel with temperature and flow controller) for CNT synthesis, Cyclone separator for separation of
fine particles from the outgas and Acid
treatment facility (mainly an
filtration and drying unit) for separation of impurities.
