ABS IMRT/VMAT Phantom

The ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) phantom is a low cost tissue equivalent phantom for pre-treatment dose verification in Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)/Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT). The phantom is elliptical in shape and properly represents an average human torso in proportion. This phantom has provisions of holding ionization chambers, radiographic/radiochromic films, TLDs, MOSFET and gel dosimeters. The phantom is suitable for dosimetry in 1D, 2D and 3D dose distributions and designed to address the comparison of treatment planning systems calculated and detector measured dose during pre-treatment dose verification.

The ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) phantom is a low cost tissue equivalent phantom for pre-treatment dose verification in IMRT/VMAT and other advanced techniques. This phantom has provisions of holding ionization chambers, radiographic/ radiochromic films, TLDs, MOSFET and gel dosimeters. The phantom is suitable for dosimetry in 1D, 2D and 3D.

FEATURES
  1. Made up of locally available, low cost tissue equivalent material i.e. ABS.
  2. Elliptical in shape and represents an average human torso in proportion.
  3. Options for point dose, 2-D & 3-D dose distribution verification.
  4. Equipped with radiochromic film, ion chamber, gel and TLDs dosimetry.
  5. Indigenously developed and import substitute.
SPECIFICATIONS
  1. Outer dimension of phantom: 370x330x180 mm3 having elliptical shape.
  2. Phantom material: ABS plastic; Composition: Acrylonitrile (15-35%), Butadiene (5-30%) and Styrene (40-60%); Density: 1.05 gram/cc
  3. The phantom is made of two parts.
  4. First part of the phantom contains the central cubical compartment, to which the side attachment is fixed to make it in an elliptical shape.
  5. This part equipped with different inserts (in central cubical compartment) to position ionization chambers, TLD discs, radiochromic films and gel dosimeter.
  6. Provision for ion chamber: The cylindrical ionization chamber is positioned within a 10 × 10× 10 mm3 spaced grid in the central region of the phantom and the positioning of the chamber is done by moving suitable compensating inserts.
  7. Provision for gel dosimeter: This part is a cubical insert of size 160 × 160 × 160 mm3 having cylindrical hole of diameter 80 mm to hold gel dosimeter container.
  8. Provision for radiochromic film: In the central part, radiochromic film sample of size 160 × 160 mm2 can be sandwiched between ABS plates of size 10 × 160 × 160 mm3 to form a stack.
  9. Provision for TLDs: Central part is equipped with TLD tray of size 10 × 160× 160 mm3 in which grooves is marked for placing TLDs of diameter 4.5 mm and thickness 0.8 mm at a spatial resolution of 7 mm (center to center).
  10. Second part: This part of the phantom have an elliptical slice of thickness 10 mm and has the provision to hold radiographic film only. Each of these slices contains three fiducial marks to identify the film orientation.
  11. Provision for fiducial marker: Phantoms have fiducial marks in the first part of the phantom for its reproducible positioning.
APPLICATIONS
  1. Pre-treatment dose verification of IMRT and VMAT treatment plans.
  2. Quality audit of advanced radiotherapy techniques.
