Environmental Radiation Monitor (ERM)

Environmental Radiation Monitor (ERM)

Environmental Radiation Monitor (ERM)

Environmental Radiation Monitor (ERM) is a Geiger-Mueller (GM) detector based standalone, solar-powered, battery-driven unit which monitors the absorbed dose rate in air due to outdoor natural gamma radiation. It has GSM based online wireless data communication and is suited for installation in open field. It is equipped with three energy compensated, halogen quenched, and neon-filled GM detectors: two large detectors for simultaneous low gamma dose rate measurements and one small detector for high dose rate measurement. Together, they provide a combined measurement range of 50 nGy.h-1 -10 Gy.h-1. The establishment of a network of such field-installed systems with online communication would facilitate the long-term monitoring of gamma absorbed dose rate in outdoor air as well as near real-time reporting of any elevation in this quantity due to any kind of radiological/nuclear emergencies.
