The instrument can be programmed to send SMS to, up-to five user-defined numbers. The Distress SMS includes the users name, age, sex, blood group, and specific medical condition if any, in addition to the current GPS location of the user. User can also include conditions like "allergies to a particular medicine" in the medical condition while programming the instrument.

The instrument can also respond to the queries from any one of the predefined numbers regarding the current user location. This is very useful in case of children or young persons, who might be kidnapped or under distress but cannot use the instrument. This would also be beneficial for old persons suffering from memory loss conditions like Alzheimer or Parkinson. The instrument uses standard SMS protocol for sending and receiving SMS hence it is compatible with all mobile phones including android and iPhone.

Once the distress switch is pressed, the instrument immediately sends the Distress SMS to user defined numbers with the GPS location stored in the memory. This is done to improve the response time. The instrument then acquires the latest GPS position and resends the distress SMS. The instrument will continue to do so every five minutes till it receives a stop command from any of the recognized mobile numbers. Thus if the person is being kidnapped, the latest location will be available to the police. However, if kidnapper snatches the device, at least the last location from where the person is kidnapped, is known. The device can also be used in case a person gets heart attack and needs immediate help. The device is rugged and cannot be destroyed easily. It has chargeable battery, which like any cell phone can be charged easily. There is LED to indicate low battery voltage. The switch is located in such a way that it cannot get pressed accidentally.
