HDR Brachytherapy System "Karknidon-I"


HDR Brachytherapy system Karknidon-I is a single source 20 channels after loading device developed for safe, accurate, and cost-effective intracavitary treatment of cancer. It involves a miniature Ir-192 source of radiation being temporarily positioned into the body very near to malignant tumor. The source is placed directly into or very near to the tissue where treatment is required through the applicator. The use of the system is in Radiation Oncology area.

HDR Brachytherapy system Karknidon-I is a single source (Ir-192) 20 channels after loading device developed for safe, accurate, and cost-effective intracavitary treatment of cancer. The system consists of the following:

  1. Remote Control Console – The operator executes the Radiotherapy treatment program remotely using this PC. It consists of the personal computer and the GUI display software showing the following details:
  2. Treatment Unit (TU) –
    1. Source container
    2. Safety interlocks, Radiation Detectors
    3. Source Out of Safe Indicator, Timer
    4. Source and Dummy Overshoot Sensing Mechanism, Wire Obstruction Sensing Mechanism
  3. Emergency Well
  4. Transfer Tube and Applicator (Intracavitary)
  5. UPS
  6. Transport Container
SALIENT FEATURE
  1. Designed for holding single 15 Ci Ir - 192 miniature source.
  2. The unit has 20 channels.
  3. Source assembly can travel as far as 1700mm from the indexer's face.
  4. DICOM - RT compliant operational software.
  5. Accurate treatment planning possible through Treatment planning software.
  6. Stepper motors for accurate linear movements of the source.
  7. High torque DC motor as well as a mechanical crank for emergency withdrawal of source.
  8. Battery back up for 8 hours operation in case of power failure.
  9. Designed with extremely high safety consideration, conforming to IEC 60601-1-1, 60601-1-2, 60601-2-17, DIN 6853 and AERB safety codes.

  1. Detailed drawings, diagrams, circuits are available. Standard items have been used wherever possible during fabrication. Hence, large scale production is possible.

FACILITIES REQUIRED


The transferee should have the following technical capability:

  1. Design Section (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics Software, radiological competence is required).
  2. Fabrication Workshop (Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Software related fabrication facility should be there or suitable sub-contractee/tie-up should be ensured).
  3. Trained service engineer/Operator to establish type approval and also for necessary sales/service support.
  4. Test Facility (In-house or tie-up with other organizations should be ensured).
  5. The transferee company should adhere to the following certifications:
    1. Design, development, manufacture, installation, and service of radiotherapy devices. It should be ISO 13485:2016 certified.
    2. Design, development, and testing of equipment in the field of Radiology and Radiotherapy. It should be ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certified.
    3. Design, manufacture, assembly, and supply of equipment in the field of Radiology and Radiotherapy. It should be ISO/IEC 14001:2015 & ISO 45001:2018 certified.
